Visiting a 'Blue' State?

Juss' soze ya noze, it ain't an old thing at all - in fact it's a relatively new phenomenon. During the 1980s, Democrats were associated with the color red, while Republicans were represented by the color blue. It was during the 2000 presidential election when journalist Tim Russert used the terms “red states” and “blue states” based on the colored maps that were used during his televised coverage. Since that time, media outlets have used red for Republican and blue for Democrats as the standard color scheme for their maps.

Ya know, back then - 83 years ago -  people thought it was impossible for anyone to ever attack the United States, and yet it happened. On September 11, 2001 this country was attacked again - again from the air.
Moral to this? Keep looking up.
In every sense of the phrase.

Many social media users, journalists and academics, are celebrating the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on Wednesday, implying that he got what he deserved.

And all of them are liberals. Imagine that.

Depending on who you talk to (and who you choose to believe), it is the largest drug seizure in history. The drugs, worth $250m, were found in a shipment that arrived at Caucedo, the country’s main seaport, in the capital of Santo Domingo. The shipment had been sent from Guatemala and was destined for Belgium, according to Carlos Devers, a spokesperson for the Dominican Republic’s anti-drug agency.
Ten suspects had been detained, he told a press conference.“Early investigations show that a container carrying bananas arrived from Guatemala,” he said. “Many unknown individuals tried to transfer the drugs to another container that would be shipped on a vessel to Belgium.”
I wonder what will happen to the guy who came up with the idea of shipping so much merch in just one shipment. Betcha heads will roll - literally..

Yeah - another miracle of modern pharmacology. This shit'll kill ya with an amount the size of a pinhead. Seriously. Aren't we proud of ourselves for the things we can create through science?

  1. That container with the coke that was found? In drug smuggling figure around 10% is found, that mean the other nine containers got through.

  2. And they swapped the colors between Republicans and Democrats because the color red was associated with communism, and people were making the easy comparison of Democrats with Communists.

    1. No. Back in the 1960's, TV news began using blue for the incumbents and red for the challengers. On most networks, Democrats were blue in 1964 and 1968, red in 1972 and 1976, blue in 1980, and so on through 2000, when GW Bush was the challenger against incumbent VP Gore. And then commentators noticed something had changed about the election map - the previous regional differences had turned into urban vs rural or high population density vs low density. So the few states won by Gore were mostly small blotches of blue in a vast sea of red for Bush. This choice of colors became frozen in the public perception.

  4. For the crushingly depressed guy, I'd go with an opium/meth cocktail. That oughta motivate him.

  5. 9.5 tons of cocaine is not the largest - by far, perhaps for DomRep, but not for the world.
I worked several vessel seizure events wherein several vessel totals exceeded 30metric tonnes per vessel located in the Eastern Pacific.
Even then, watching the market for more than a year, those sized seizures did nothing to the price on the street as so much cocaine was being moved.
Simple economics: we need to stop demand for drugs otherwise someone will sell something for profit, usually with great harm to innocents (see cartels at war in Mexico and American lawless cities).
