Spirit Airlines is preparing to file for bankruptcy protection after merger talks with Frontier Airlines went down the shitter. The Florida-based airline is in final negotiations with bondholders on a restructuring plan to secure the support of key creditors. It owes more than $3 billion. Already this year it scaled back growth plans, layed off staff and has a plan to sell 23 of it's planes. It is expected that Spirit will file for Chapter 11, a form of bankruptcy that allows it to keep operating as it bids to cut its debts.
Aside from the cramped seats and unruly nickel-and-dime passengers, there's still a place for a discount airline here. How it'll save itself is another story.

ReplyDeleteNo need to wonder about the JFK steal though... It's thoroughly documented.

ReplyDeleteLet's wait and see what the net change is. If they eliminate a couple of departments and prune back a bunch of others, it will be a net gain.
I don't think that DOGE will have any actual power to effect a change; I think their recommendations will have to pass through Congress, but I also think that The Donald will see to it that their recommendations are so highly publicized that Congress will not dare not to act upon them
DeleteI finally found a place that makes a decent bagel - and then it was purchased by a couple of entrepreneurs - from NJ yet - f'get about it; foam rubber tastes better!
ReplyDeleteI'm still looking to find a place that makes a decent seeded rye bread, y'know, like the one we used to get by my Aunt Dora's in Brighton Beach. The only one that's all close to it is Levy's Jewish Rye - y' gotta be kiddin' me; I wouldn't think to desecrate that with a healthy schmear of chopped chicken liver.
