Sunday nights on Labor Day weekend if we weren't down the shore, and with the exception of when the Ed Sullivan show was on, we watched this, and nothing but this, until it was over. There was no discussion. We only had the one TV (in the 'TV room' - my grandmother's bedroom) and that was that. My mother was the master of the TV, and there was no questioing her decisions when she was in the room.
Especially when 'her Jerry' was on. Ya see, my mother and he grew up together - they were childhood friends who grew up on the same street at the same time. They even went to grade school together. They remained friends throughout their lives.
On a side note, being the youngest of the three boys, I was the remote control - 'Joey, put on Channel 11'. Ahh, the good old days, huh?
