A sign you may be in the wrong place?

Say you go in to a restaurant you've never been in before, and you see a sign like this at the cash register. Do you
A: Pay no attention to it
B: Remember that when you pay your tab, or
C: You turn around and walk the fuck out, like I would. These cheap motherfuckers obviously don't pay their wait staff enough, so the service will probably suck. Beside, what kinda fuckin' balls ya gotta have to have a professionally made expensive jerkoff sign like that made? Go fuck yourselfs.

  1. Great question Joe. A handful of years ago I would have given it little thought since I had been serving staff several places in high school and college. The whole minimum wage vs. lower wage for wait staff since they get tips debate.
Now, since there is a tip jar at every gas station, fast food, sandwich shop check-out I confess I have hardened my heart somewhat and ignore it.
That being said, the rare times wife & I do a sit down restaurant, when I get a hair cut, or similar personalized service, I tip very, very well. Many of the boat and dive crews in Key Largo remember us from past visits and give us that little extra bit of attention so its not all altruistic

  2. Agree, 100%, you're too cheap to pay the staff. You're cutting corners everywhere especially on the food. Not for me bubba! BYE!

  3. I fucking hated tips and didn't understand them until my wife began working as a waitress. So now I usually tip at least 20 percent unless they are seriously bad.

  4. There used to be a restaurant called The Alpine Village in Vegas. It had vallet parking, and the vallets received no salary; it as 100% tip. They had a 2 year waiting period if you wanted to become a vallet. Huge money to be made. Great service.

There was a restaurant that my great uncle used to frequent in the 70s and 80s. I believe it was called El Grecos. The wait staff made close to nothing, if not nothing. High end restaurant. Phenomenal service. Again, long wait to join the waitstaff.

Club 33 in Disneyland is probably unionized. The one time I went, we had a large party and a mandatory 20% tip. It was buffet style and at the time $75 per person. There was probably 15 people in our party, and the waitress made $225 in the hour she served us for just taking drink orders. Again, huge line of people wanting that job.

There's a YouTuber, Lost in the Pond that ran an episode. On the difference between English restaurants and American restaurants. The bottom line was better service in American probably due to tipping culture.

Due to Bidenomics, I don't go out to eat nearly as often as I did pre Covid. But when I do go to a sit down restaraunt, I typically tip between 20 and 25 percent. Last time we were comp a dessert at one of our regular stops.

  5. How I tip: has nothing to do with amount of check, it has to do with job performance. How well do they listen, how well they get the order right, how often do they check on you ie: more coffee etc. Went to a breakfast place and the waitress did a really good job and left her with a $14.00 tip also thanked her for how well she did her job but did not state how much the tip was.
