What's the farthest east - and west - you can get in Alaska? I don't know, I'll aska...

The Aleutian Islands, also called the Aleut Islands or Aleutic Islands and known before 1867 as the Catherine Archipelago, are a chain of 14 large volcanic islands and 55 smaller islands.
Most of the Aleutian Islands belong to the U.S. state of Alaska, but some belong to the Russian federal subject of Kamchatka Krai.

  1. Farthest west inhabited island is Shemya. 2 miles wide, 4 or so long; it’s an air base and a few other secret squirrel kinda things…there are a couple smaller uninhabited islands just west of it. I spent 6 weeks there back in 1997; 3 days fixing a broken A-10 & the rest trying to get a ride home. Farthest east is probably Hyder down in the southeast panhandle. It’s just about 3000 miles between the 2, I believe.
