The phrase, which was first added to the mission statement in 1898, is set to be replaced with the words, “Army Values,” according to a letter sent to students and supporters from the school. The new mission statement for the senior army leadership will now read: “To build, educate, train, and inspire the Corps of Cadets to be commissioned leaders of character committed to the Army Values and ready for a lifetime of service to the Army and Nation.’”
The change stemmed from a regular reassessment of the academy, according to Superintendent Lt. Gen. Steve Gilland. “Our responsibility to produce leaders to fight and win our nation’s wars requires us to assess ourselves regularly,” Gilland wrote.
Simple question - if the "DHC' thing is the institution's motto, why couldn't they have just added the new verbage without taking it out?

We tend not to think of our brains as muscles (we actually don't think about our brains at all, do we?) but it actually is a kind of 'muscle', and as such, needs exersise to stay healthy. Crosswords, Soduko and Wordle are classic examples of 'brain exercises' we can do to stay as mentally fit as we can.

Loved the "Hip Replacement"
ReplyDeleteRegarding West Point.
ReplyDeleteThe Motto is still, "Duty, Honor, Country"
They have changed the Mission Statement so that it no longer inludes the Motto. Hell, they change the "Mission Statement" all the time - they changed it when i was there to include women. Still, I am disgusted by it. It includes shit like "diversity" and yet takes out any reference to the "United States" ... if I knew how to post a picture, I'd send it to ya'll.
Incidentally (and irrelevantly) I'm a classmate of the current Superintendant, LTG Gilland.
Lost many friends over the years trying to speak out against this P.C. BS. probably lost promotions too. I was never quiet about it - but alas, too much to vent about here.
Stay Strong, lads.

Sounds like West Point and it's leaders no longer value honor. Looking at what's going on these days I'm not surprised.
