Pennies, the one cent piece, costs over 2.5cents each to manufacturer a few years ago, and was mostly copper until early 1980s, it's been copper plated since. What a waste of taxpayers' monies to spend far more making a product than its designated "worth". However, when you need a copper washer, or any washer, the price ain't too bad.
