I see this shit every day...
I go to a Circle-K near my house pretty much every afternoon for a cup of coffee and a coupla scratch-offs (to their credit, they do have good coffee there - and fresh ground to order). It's a stupid habit, but I've been doing it more or less for about 20 years, but that's a story for another day.
What I do see there is this. Every day they throw away literally dozens of perfectly good sandwiches and bisquits and pretzels and hotdogs and other shit because they have some fucked-up rule that food can't be out on display for more than ten hours or some bullshit like that. Anyway, they refuse to call homeless shelters or any other charities to donate this PERFECTLY GOOD AND EDIBLE FOOD for fear of liability like if god-forbid some toothless jerkoff decides to sue the company for food poisoning or some shit. It is such a terrible, almost unbelievable waste.
This is what happens when the fuckin' lawyers run the world.
It fuckin' blows.

"The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers". Shakespeare's Henry VI, Part 2, Act IV, Scene 2.
ReplyDeleteAmen!
ReplyDeleteBravo (good post).

ReplyDeleteExactly. People as so concerned about getting sued, even for farting in their own basement, that everyone is covering their ass at any cost. I was a VP in a large company and ran a large division. I cant remember all the frivolous lawsuits I had to deal with. Just slimy lawyers (redundancy) looking for a quick settlement. Once I was named a defendant because some sales guy in an office that did not report to me and I wasnt responsible for, knocked up a secretary. My defense was I had never heard of the secretary, or the sales guy, or have ever been at that locations. Still a massive waste of my time. She and her lawyer got to split $100K.
And woe be you if you fired a black person. Just get out the check book. And they wonder why people are reluctant to hire them.
The lawyers just made the liability arguments ... it was the fucking juries that made the outrageous awards. And that means it was people like you.
ReplyDeleteMost of the time it's not the juries, because the lawyers settle out of court. That's OK when neither side is 100% right or 100% wrong, but quite often it's a compromise between a perfect case that will be expensive to prove in court and a bucket of bull droppings. The insurance companies don't want the cost and risk of a trial, but never take the long-term view and realize that when they settle, they invite every lawyer without enough legitimate work to file an ill-founded suit and aim for a settlement.
DeleteIf you want to fix it, work to change our courts to loser-pays.
Sadly, it's partially due to local regulations and mostly due to frucking lawyers. Somebody gets an 'expired' sandwich and gets sick from it, hey, they just struck the lottery.
ReplyDeleteIf you are not aware Circle-K has a monthly subscription. You pay once every thirty days and get one drink FREE any size every day. You’re welcome 👍
ReplyDeletePretty sure lawyers are a creation of Lucifer.
ReplyDeleteI'm a lawyer but agree with you. I grew up poor in a big family, Mom did her absolute best to keep food on the table given Dad's wages. We managed somehow, but "discards" like this could have helped us, if then available, and so many more over the years. Why haven't the state's taken action to see that this food is provided to those in need/want?
ReplyDeleteChange kill all the lawyers to kill all the democrats and I'm on board.....;sides, if you do that you'll accomplish eliminating 2/3 of lawyers anyway
