Damnit. Cya later, Winn-Dixie...

NPR.com - Maybe, maybe not. We'll see. We already have three ALDI stores within five miles of my house. Aldi will acquire all outstanding shares of Jacksonville, Florida-based Southeastern Grocers Inc., the parent company of Winn-Dixie and Harveys. If the deal is approved by regulators, it's expected to close in the first half of 2024.Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed. Both Southeastern Grocers and Aldi are private companies. Aldi is based in Germany with a U.S. headquarters in Batavia, Illinois.Aldi said the deal supports its long-term growth strategy in the U.S., where it expects to have 2,400 stores by the end of this year. The Winn-Dixie and Harveys supermarkets it's acquiring are primarily in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi.

  1. When I’m in SWFL, I shop Aldi, Publix, and W-D, with some Walmart thrown in. W-D has struggled, even to the point of not fixing one wrecked local store after Ian. Probably won’t mean much to me.

  2. I remember when Aldi’s first came out,I figured it would just be a fad. And my first trips kind of proved me right, they were selling off brands or discontinued brands and not much else.Well flip the page 40 years ahead and the one by my house is damn near a full service supermarket. They’re big, clean and have a ton of fresh stuff now. Their German stores are actually upscale stores and it looks like they’re heading in that direction now

  3. Tried Aldi......stores weren't clean and were disorganized.....basically the same reason we didn't use Winn Dixie....as an aside, a little conspiracy theory here....the Germans being close to the EU and the WEF with their "insects for beef" agenda may have found a way to help push that agenda into the country....just sayin'....
