I've always thought that 'jumping ship' had to do with getting off the boat before the customs and immigration guys got a hold of you, but this guy musta thought he could swim to shore. Either that or he was really pissed off a his girlfriend...
A Carnival Cruise passenger is missing after he jumped off the ship heading towards Florida. The 30-year-old missing man’s relatives told staffers that he had vanished Sunday, leading security personnel to check video cameras to track his movements. A clip showed the 30-year-old man jumping off the side of the boat about 95 miles off the coast of Melbourne.
“The crew was notified by his traveling companion late (Sunday) afternoon about his missing status after he had not been seen all day,” the cruise line said. “Sadly, after an exhaustive on-board search and a review of security camera video it was determined that he jumped.” The cruise operator said it alerted authorities about the incident and was advised to proceed to its final stop in Jacksonville. “The Carnival Care Team is providing support to the guest’s family and our thoughts are with them and the guest,” the cruise line said.

How hard would it be to program some AI to monitor those CCTV cameras in real time and sound an alert when it identifies someone jumping overboard?
ReplyDeletewhy would you spend time and resources to search for someone who JUMPED off of a ship at sea?
