America responds to the Actors Guild strike. Sorta...

I'm curious about other people. That's the essence of my acting. I'm interested in what it would be like to be you. - Meryl Streep

NPR.com - SAG-AFTRA, the union representing Hollywood actors and performers, has voted to go on strike against major studios. Union president Fran Drescher said in a press conference that it was time for studio executives to "wake up and smell the coffee."
The union's national board made the decision after negotiations broke down with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. After a last ditch effort, monitored by a federal mediator, the two sides failed to come to an agreement.
"This is the Union's choice, not ours," the AMPTP said in a statement. "Rather than continuing to negotiate, SAG-AFTRA has put us on a course that will deepen the financial hardship for thousands who depend on the industry for their livelihoods."
The studios have also pointed out that the climate for streaming is not good; they've had a lot of layoffs recently. Just before the strike was called, Disney's CEO, Bob Iger, told CNBC that the union's expectations are not realistic.

Actors say they don't want to be replaced by computer-generated images; they want control over where and how their likenesses are used.

Born a biological male, one South Korean has continued her passion in completive cycling after transitioning to a woman against biological female riders - not for glory, but to prove a point to “selfish” trans athletes. Na Hwa-rin, 37, was raised in a Christian family but knew since the age of seven that she should have been born a female.
Following her transition last year she was legally recognized as a woman in the eyes of the South Korean government and has continued with her lifelong love of racing as a cyclist now as a female.
Na secured a victory at the Gangwon Sports Festival in June but had an out-of-character reason for racing and winning - she set out to prove biological men are physically superior to biological women. “I have no unresolved feelings over winning because that’s no longer what I want. My goal was to stir controversy and get my story heard by competing,” Na told the Korean Times.

Can you imagine the size of the ego on this fuckin' guy/girl?
Due to incredible pressure from the politically correct at all costs crowd,
here in the blog we will now only refer to transgendered people as
'she's'. Even if it's a girl-to-guy thing.

In an effort to prove that they are indeed insufferable, hatefull scumbags,  the Democrat-majority committee in the California state assembly has declined to advance a bill that would make child trafficking a serious felony in the Golden State. Democrats on the Assembly Public Safety Committee decided not to advance the proposed legislation on Tuesday in a move that could mean the bill won't pass into law this year. Republican Senator Shannon Grove introduced the bill.

"It's a very, very small percentage of the 160,000 plus member union that actually can make a living off of the work that we do," said actor Denise Cabanela, known for her roles in Adventure Beast on Netflix and the upcoming Frasier reboot.

India is bidding to become only the fourth country to execute a controlled landing on the moon with the successful launch Friday of its Chandrayaan-3 mission. So, upon seeing a news item like this, I'm curious. Does your mind work the same way mine does?
I immediately thought to myself 'Why the fuck does India need to go to the moon'? and then I thought 'For that matter, why does anyone else'? It's a dead fuckin' rock that doesn't fuck with us in any way AND it controls our tides with it's orbit. Don't fuck with it. Juss' sayin'...

  2. Sorry, the rank poster can't be from 1943. The five star rank for General of the Army was not created or assigned until late 1944. It was December 1944 before they first five star ranks were given. So, the poster is probably from 1945.

    1. You're right - it must have been mis-dated. On December 14, 1944, Congress passed Public Law 482, authorizing the temporary establishment of a five-star rank: General of the Army and, for the U.S. Navy, Fleet Admiral. This aligned the United States' military ranks with those of its World War II allies, thus eliminating the problem of U.S. officers commanding Allied officers of technically higher rank. In December 1944, the Army promoted four general officers to General of the Army: Generals George C. Marshall, Douglas MacArthur, Dwight D. Eisenhower and Henry H. "Hap" Arnold. The Navy, meanwhile, promoted three admirals to Fleet Admiral — Admirals William D. Leahy, Ernest J. King and Chester Nimitz — and a fourth, Admiral William F. Halsey, in December 1945. After the establishment of the Air Force as a separate service branch in 1947, General Arnold also became General of the Air Force. In September 1950, Omar N. Bradley became the fifth Army general to be promoted to five-star rank.
The five-star rank still exists, although no U.S. officers have held it since the death of General Bradley in 1981. The president may promote a general or admiral to five-star rank at any time, with Senate approval. However, U.S. military policy has been to award five-star rank only when the rank of an American commander must be equal to or higher than that of officers from other nations under his or her control (as was the case in World War II).

    2. Remember, the USA didn't need any commanders higher than Lieutenant General (3 stars) until WWI, when Pershing was bumped straight from 2 stars to 4 to go along with his command of the American Expeditionary Force. George Washington was the first Lt Gen and the only one in the Revolutionary War. When he retired, all the Major Generals (2 star) felt it would be presumptuous to match Washington's rank, so they left the it vacant. The Indian wars hardly ever even needed a division-sized force (theoretically what a Major General commanded), but they didn't promote anyone to 3 stars even in the War of 1812 and the Mexican American War. In 1855, they finally gave 69 years old Winfield Scott a third star, after 14 years as the Commanding General of the USA, but it was only a brevet (temporary) promotion. Then the Civil War started, and Scott got the feeling that Lincoln thought he was too old for the job at 75, and was bypassing him and talking directly to his subordinates, so he resigned in late 1861.

The Union somehow got through more than half of the Civil War with Major Generals (2-stars) commanding other Major Generals and no 3-stars until 1864. Then U.S. Grant was promoted to 3 stars, followed by Halleck, Sherman, and a few others. Grant had seniority over the other Lieutenant Generals, and that was sufficient to establish the hierarchy.

OTOH, the Confederacy soon promoted Lee to 4 stars. Jefferson Davis couldn't fix the small size and weak logistics of the Confederate Army, but it cost little to hand out more bits of glitter than Lincoln would. Lee may not have been impressed; he had his pre-war Colonel uniform copied in gray and wore that for the rest of the war, including the Colonel collar insignia.

    1. If this had come out a few years back, I'd have figured that they were trying to show "Our make-up is so good it even works on this man." It could be a variation of the "Strong enough for a man but made for a woman" ad campaign that some razor company ran years ago.

  4. India tried to land a craft on the moon a few years ago. It got there, but failed during descent and crashed. I managed to watch the live feed…not a lot of happy folks in the control room that day.
