What the hell is a 'Dakota Fire Hole'?

  1. Way too much work unless you are staying for a week or two. I was taught to just build your fire early and a little big next to some rocks that you've chosen and -tested cold- to support your pan. When you're ready to cook rake out the coals to between your chosen support rocks and cook over them. No smoked up pots and nice even heat.

  2. Hides your fire, and disperses the smoke.

If yer hiding from someone, it is a good method.

  3. It's a rocket stove for the ground. Very efficient, but you can't do it in rocky soil or loose dirt.
