If you were there, you're at least 95 now...

Imagine yourself being a 16 or 17-year-old kid
and you're in that landing craft...

This is what was happening on this morning, 79 years ago. God bless each and every one of them - they truly were 'The Greatest Generation'.
You never have and hopefully never will experience anything nearly as maddening, chaotic and frightening as this must have been, and yet they perservered, and were selfless in doing so.
And because of them - their bravery and sacrifice - we are here today, alive and free.
Think about them - their trials and sacrifices and what they preserved for us - before you bitch about something truly trivial in your life or world...

And you wonder why Batz went out of business? When I was a kid I loved listening to Gene Shepard (think 'Christmas Story and Ralphie) on the radio telling stories of his childhood and Blatz was the beer he mentioned most often.

These people have truly lost their fucking minds. Big Apple officials unveiled a street vending machine Monday that covers it all when it comes to catering to drug-users, offering free handy paraphernalia such as crack pipes and lip balm - and also Narcan for overdoses.
The vending machine, one of four set to be placed in some of the city’s most drug-infested neighborhoods, swaps out what would be more typical offerings such as candy bars and potato chips for the drug-related freebies to try to combat the surge in overdoses in the five boroughs, city Health Department bigs said.
“Every three hours, we’re losing a New Yorker to drugs. And it looks like 2023 is on track to be our highest year ever in overdoses,’’ Health and Mental Hygiene Commissioner Ashwin Vasan said at a press conference next to the first machine, which is parked near a nonprofit aimed at offering housing and other support for those in need. “We have a rising tide of fentanyl, and now we have other substances entering our drug supply, which is really putting us behind the eight ball,” Vasan said.
He specifically noted the increasing presence of Xylazine, a veterinary drug known as “Tranq” or the “zombie drug’’ that can leave users in a catatonic state and with conditions that eat their flesh off.

How long before Gavin announces he's running?

Gavin Newsom took a jab at Ron DeSantis on Monday, calling for kidnapping charges against the Florida governor after two group of migrants were dropped off in Sacramento. Newsom took to Twitter saying, "@RonDeSantis you small, pathetic man. This isn't Martha's Vineyard. Kidnapping charges?" He included a screenshot that included a portion of the kidnapping penal code from the California Legislative Information's website.

That's pretty funny - the fact that somebody scratched out the Heineken flag thing but the rainbow flag is front and center. Go figure...
...

Try to get your head around the guys who handled the
logistical challenges of that whole operation.
It's almost mind-numbing to grasp.

And what are the French doing to celebrate
the anniversary of D-Day?

They're doing something that couldn't more be frivolous if they tried. The Champs-Élysées in Paris was taken over by 'writers' on Sunday in perhaps the world's largest-ever dictation event.  You read that correctly, my friend.
Instead of car traffic, the famed boulevard was covered by some 1,779 desks organized into rows for the more than 5,000 Frenchies with absolutely nothing better to do with their time and energy who were chosen to participate.
And there were no cocktails involved. You figure it out...

  1. I worked at Eisenhower's Command Bldg, 7 North Audley in London from '95-'99. The Constellation Room was his old office which we used as a meeting hall and for special occasions, like Awards and Promotions. I used to be thinking about D-Day even then as a 34 year old Sailor. I had the chance to sail a boat from Calais to Normandy visiting Dieppe and other ports for a week just after Memorial Day in 1996 with some local English boating friends. To be there in France on a June 6th was quite a remarkable thing, breathing the air and smelling the shore like our troops did and thinking about the struggles to save our world sobered me with humility. When I got back to work I felt very honored to walk the same halls of Eisenhower's Command Building. (CINCUSNAVEUR, London)

  2. If you've never been to the landing beaches, or the American Cemetary at Normandy, go. It's sacred ground. I went in 2004, for the 60th anniversary. Most of these snowflakes today would likely get a new perspective on the life they have now, if they went there.

  3. I recently read an account where a German patrol captured an American jeep just after Normandy. The German wrote that when he discovered the contents of the GIs rations, he knew the war was over. The Americans had canned cake and sent it to the front lines. Of all the things you don't need on the front lines, cake is probably high on the list, but the Americans had enough left over logistical capacity to provide that to their men.

Ready about Gen. Mathis and the Iraq war, part 2,the story was the same. Logistics wins wars.
