Do you leave your butter out on the counter or keep it in the fridge?

You can keep butter on the counter. Butter and margarine can both be stored at room temperature because they have such a high fat count it's hard for them to go rancid too fast, but be mindful of a few things.
The USDA recommends only leaving out an amount of butter that can be used within two days, but that's just them being over-zealous and cautionary. Think about those 'use-by' dates they insist on having on every product.
They put a 'use-by date' on two million year old Himalayan salt, ferfuckdsake...

Anyway, I keep unsalted/sweet butter sticks in the fridge, usually just for cooking, but I keep Breakstone salted whipped butter on the counter. It comes in a neat little self-covering conatiner, and is much better-spreading soft. It's never gone rancid on us, and usually last about a week.
How do you guys deal with this butter thing?
Oh - as I've said before my brother TJ lived in Belfast. Over there, they don't put their eggs in the fridge, either. That one I'm  not too sure of. A dozen eggs usually lasts us a good coupla weeks.

  2. Our butter is uncovered, next to the toaster. Gets moved to the table for dinner.

  3. In the fridge with a stick on the counter for 2-3 days. By then a fresh stick is needed. A pound of 'Amish' butter stays on the counter till gone.

  6. It's on the counter in a dish with a cover so I don't drop crap on it any more. It is by the toaster :-)
