I had no idea video like this even existed...
Ypres is a town in the Belgian province of West Flanders. It's surrounded by the Ypres Salient battlefields, where many cemeteries, memorials and war museums honor the battles that unfolded in this area during World War I. After being destroyed in the war, many important buildings were carefully reconstructed, including Gothic-style Sint-Maartenskathedraal (St. Martin's Cathedral) and its soaring spire.
An interesting article about the town:

'Beneath Flanders Fields: The Tunnellers' War 1914-18' is a pretty interesting book
ReplyDeleteI didn't know until a few years ago that there are actually still large areas in France and Belgium that are considered no go zones. Still so contaminated with chemicals and live munitions from WW1 that you're not allowed to stop on any of the roads that traverse them.
