Will the hammer go down today?

NBCNews - U.S. Capitol Police will be taking security precautions in case there are demonstrations over an indictment of former President Donald Trump, the Senate sergeant at arms said Monday in a notice to senators' offices. “While law enforcement is not tracking any specific, credible threats against the Capitol or state offices, there is potential for demonstration activity,” the sergeant at arms said in an email to Senate staff members. Capitol Police are “working with law enforcement partners, so you may observe a greater law enforcement presence on Capitol Hill.”
Trump indicated Saturday that he would be arrested Tuesday, citing "illegal leaks" in the New York County district attorney's hush money probe, and called for his supporters to protest. The DA's office in Manhattan has not indicated that Trump will be indicted, and several sources familiar with the matter say not to expect any developments Tuesday. The next scheduled grand jury date is Wednesday.

This beast - the last of it's breed - will be so fast,
you can attach a parachute to it...

(CNN) — With Dodge’s legendary V8-powered muscle cars going out of production at year-end, engineers wanted the last non-electric Dodge Challenger to make a statement. Sort of a very fast, very loud, statement: A final salute to the fuel-burning era. Buyers just might want to attach a parachute.
The Demon 170 will be able to go from zero to 60 miles an hour in just under 1.7 seconds under ideal circumstances, according to Dodge. (Ideal circumstances would include a professional driver and a properly prepared drag strip.) A possible add-on is a parachute mounting system — parachute not included — to aid in drag-strip stops. It will be sold separately under Dodge’s Direct Connection-brand, and is designed to bolt onto the back of the car.
The unveiling of the 1,025 horsepower Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 has been long anticipated, and long delayed. Engineers kept blowing up engines during development testing, said Tim Kuniskis, chief executive of Stellantis’s Dodge brand. To deal with this engine’s “massive, massive cylinder pressures” a lot of work had “to be done to make sure that the inside parts stay inside and not outside,” he said.

The total weight of Earth’s wild land mammals – from elephants to bisons and from deer to tigers – is now less than 10% of the combined tonnage of men, women and children living on the planet.
A study by scientists at Israel’s Weizmann Institute of Science, published this month, concludes that wild land mammals alive today have a total mass of 22m tons. By comparison, humanity now weighs in at a total of around 390m tons.
At the same time, the species we have domesticated, such as sheep and cattle, in addition to other hangers-on such as urban rodents, add a further 630m tons to the total mass of creatures that are now competing with wild mammals for Earth’s resources.

The biomass of pigs alone is nearly double that of all wild land
mammals - except in Israel, where the study was done.

RuPaul's Drag Race winners and queer icons are teaming up to make a high-heeled stand against anti-drag politics with a high-profile telethon.
Amid a rise in U.S. state legislation that limits drag as well as gender-affirming healthcare for transgender children, Drag management firm Producer Entertainment Group has partnered with GLAAD, Queerty parent company Q.Digital, OUTtv, Obsessed, Trixie Cosmetics, SERV Vodka, and Headcount.org to launch the Drag Isn't Dangerous campaign, including a one-night-only streaming telethon that will divide proceeds among charities that support LGBTQ causes and drag performers in need.
Featuring a wealth of talent - none of whom are taking a fee for the event - from numerous RuPaul's Drag Race winners to community staples, the Drag Isn't Dangerous telethon will include a mix of live and pre-taped sets as well as testimonials from LGBTQ people as well as straight celebrity allies.

  1. If there are protests, 99% of the protesters will be Feds. As to the weight of the humans, the biggest share of that is the jumbo fatties waddling around Walmart.

  2. Lot of qualifiers in the 10% biomass article - what's the saying "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics"

Wild - Wild animals naturally require more space than domesticated, predators especially, what was their biomass 200 years ago, 2,000 years ago, 20,000 years ago - maybe the big reduction occurred before we were civilized. But it has been replaced by domesticated mammals.

Mammals - Now do the biomass differences in birds, reptiles and amphibians, fish, shellfish - maybe even less decrease since primitive man didn't run them off cliffs in mass.

Land - And forget 70% of the earth's surface and all those whales, dolphins, seals, elephant seals. Again, historical biomass differences are more interesting than a throw away statistic.

A useless and meant to be inflammatory statistic. It tells you nothing but allows the usual suspects to have the vapors.
