Federal authorities have added 25 border patrol agents at a section of the northeastern U.S. border with Quebec in response to a spike in illegal crossings. The team, which started on Monday, will help to deter and disrupt human smuggling activities in the sector that includes the border areas of New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine and parts of upstate New York, a U.S. Custom and Border Protection spokesperson said in a statement.
“While the apprehension numbers are small compared to other areas with irregular migration flows, Swanton Sector apprehensions constitute a large change in this area,” the spokesperson said.
Statistics from U.S. Customs and Border Protection show that agents in the sector apprehended 1,513 illegal border crossers between Oct. 1, 2022 through Jan. 31, 2023, up from 160 in the same period the year before.

Edwin Castro hit headlines after winning the $2.04 billion prize back in November - though he has chosen to remain private ever since. He will will soon count Ariana Grande and Jimmy Kimmel as his neighbors after he snapped up a sprawling $25.5 million Hollywood Hills mansion.
Just one month after scooping up his one-time payment, reports state he has invested in a 13,578-square-foot hillside home which comes complete with a full outdoor kitchen, gym, wine cellar and infinity pool. Last month Castro, who is reportedly in his early 30s, finally claimed his $997.6 million prize after taxes.
This news comes after it was revealed Castro is being sued by a fellow California resident who alleges he had the winning ticket and it was stolen from him.

ReplyDeletethat was the last battle my uncle jack fought in. he was a marine. after that one, he got sent back to the states to teach others to be marines. he was a big fan of flamethrowers. he was one of the three men left standing from his company when it was over. he also told me to never take POWs. just kill the fuckers the best and safest way you can. he had a lot of pictures of reunions with 'Chesty" in them. he served with him from the "canel' to Pelieu.

Men of our age had plenty of those types around when we were kids; heroic figures but approachable and salty. Some had scars or missing limbs. We had a WWI vet up the street with shrapnel in his back that he'd make us feel if we were being rowdy and disrespectful, and just about everybody's dad was "in the service" in WWII or Korea; they would talk and share stories only they could related to. Seems like they all got further away and then just weren't there any longer.
