Did you steal a car in 2022? How about taking a bribe? If you did, the IRS says you should make sure you report it on your taxes. The requirements can be found in "IRS Publication 525 Taxable and Nontaxable Income,'' amid other missives to report income earned from jobs in the gig economy and what to do about taxable alimony payments.
"If you steal property, you must report its FMV (Fair Market Value) in your income in the year you steal it, unless in the same year you return it to its rightful owner," the publication says. How about if you receive a bribe? "Include it in your income,'' the IRS says.
And if you're dealing illegal drugs or caught up in other illegal activities? In that case, the IRS publication says, jot your earnings on line 8z, Schedule 1 of your 1040 form, "or on schedule C ... if from your self-employment activity."
And don't forget to report any kickbacks you took in the course of doing business. "Kickbacks, side commissions, push money, or similar payments'' also go on Schedule 1 or Schedule C.

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) called for gender-neutral bathrooms in schools on Thursday, in response to a town hall question from a transgender Virginia teenager. Youngkin, who issued a series of restrictive guidelines to Virginia schools last fall related to transgender students, said on Thursday that it was important to accommodate students.
“That’s why I have said many, many times, we just need extra bathrooms in schools,” he said. “We need gender-neutral bathrooms and so people can use the bathroom that they, in fact, are comfortable with.”
Youngkin’s guidelines would require transgender students to participate in activities and use school facilities that align with the sex they were assigned at birth. It would also make it more difficult for students to change their name or gender presentation at school.
This makes as much sense as anything I've heard or seen about all of this alphabet bullshit. Good for him.

About one-fourth of Roku’s cash and equivalents — nearly half a billion dollars — has been held in Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), which was shut down by financial regulators Friday after it collapsed. And the streaming platform company said it’s unsure how much of that cash it will recover.
SVB, after it faced a run on deposits and failed to raise capital to make up the shortfall, was closed by the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation, which appointed the FDIC as receiver of its assets. SVB, which had $209 billion in assets at the end of 2022, had been attempting to find a buyer but was ultimately unsuccessful.
Roku disclosed in an SEC filing that about $487 million of its $1.9 billion in cash and equivalents is held at SVB, or about 26% of the company’s cash and cash equivalents balance as of March 10. The remaining $1.4 billion is “distributed across multiple large financial institutions,” Roku said in the filing.

Ya know, this blog has experienced some explosive growth over the years, and it's getting somewhere in the area of 8,500 +/- page views a day, That's in excess of two and one-half million views a year - an almost astronomical number for something this trite.
