Astronomers have spotted a runaway supermassive black hole, seemingly ejected from its home galaxy and racing through space with a chain of stars trailing in its wake. According to the team's research, which was published on the pre-print server arXiv.org(opens in new tab) and has been accepted for publication in The Astrophysical Journal Letters, the discovery offers the first observational evidence that supermassive black holes can be ejected from their home galaxies to roam interstellar space.
The researchers discovered the runaway black hole as a bright streak of light while they were using the Hubble Space Telescope to observe the dwarf galaxy RCP 28, located about 7.5 billion light-years from Earth.
Now granted, this is all conjecture on their part, but the numbers they're using still take your breath away, don't they?
I wonder how far 7.5 billion light-years really is...

So the baptist men ministers can be married but you can't have a woman minister. I get that. Not.

They're called 'light pillars'. It's what happens when ground light reflects off ice crystals in the air. Pretty frickin' cool, huh? Imagine if you saw this shit while you were tripping?

The caption for this photo said that it was somewhere in the area of Niagara Falls, NY, but I'll be fucked if this isn't just about the most Central Florida picture I've ever seen. There are probably a couple thousand signs popped out like this all over the area around my house. It's a saturday Night thing to do thing, I reckon. Juss' sayin'...

Regarding the Sunshine Skyway, my Dad used to have a thing about bridges with that little sign at the beginning with the castle on it signifying it was built by the Corps of Engineers....nonncom
ReplyDeleteHelp me out here: $200 million purchased for $500K=$12 million for $24.6K?
ReplyDeleteOutside the touristy area of Niagara Falls during the summer, you couldn't tell a difference in people actions/attitudes than those of Starke FL. You have your meth labs and the shenanigan's that go along with it.
ReplyDeleteI remember when the old skyway bridge went down that early rainy morning. I drove over the remaining single span afterwards. Loose hanging structural members swinging in the breeze. I wondered what the people thought when they went over to their death. A second or two and they were under water, no way out. Fuch!!! My Dad never liked driving over that old bridge, something that didn't bother me. Allan
ReplyDeleteI see those light pillars all winter long up here. Just one of the myriad reasons I stay….
