'Mobile home' values are rising at a rate nearly as fast as that of single-family homes, according to a study released earlier this month by online loan platform LendingTree. The median value of a mobile home increased at an average annual rate of 34.6% between 2021 and 2016, compared to 35.4% for single-family homes, based on a LendingTree analysis of U.S. Census data. But climbing values are where the similarities stop.
Residents of mobile homes say that unlike single-family homes, typically houses that buyers purchase as an investment as much as a residence, mobile homes become more burdensome with time. They can fall into disrepair, making them less attractive to potential buyers. And the private companies who own the land can lowball on price when offering to buy the homes. Plus, for many mobile homeowners, choosing to sell right now would mean entering an even tighter housing and rental market. So, even as the values of their homes rise, owners are finding they're stuck.
My house is a perfect example. It's 'manufactured' and you'd hardly call it a 'trailer'. It's 3-bedroom. 2-bath 1,450 sq. ft. and it's on a quarter-acre lot. Granted I did a shitload of work on the house - new flooring/kitchen/bathrooms/etc., but, as my brother says. it've 'very well appointed'. Anyway, I paid a buck and a quarter for this place (I own my land) six years ago, and could easily get around three hundred for it now, but where the fuck do you go with the 300 large? Two bedroom condos cost that much. Juss' sayin'...

Mattress Mack came to Houston with $500 and turned it into a furniture empire working 20 hrs a day. He gives back to the community big time. His bet is just a financial hedge, insurance, because he does a "no one has to pay for anything they buy if the Astros win the series" to sell more furniture. If he wins the bet, he covers the give-away and people get free stuff. Either way he gets press and sells more furniture.
ReplyDeleteHa, you modernist you. Your wall phone had push buttons.
ReplyDeleteI went to a play and they had a wall phone with the dial, when the actress went to make a call she turned the dial backwards. I really stood out to me!
