A Yale Medical-educated doctor has claimed that flying too often can ruin your sex life, warning that the stress caused by regular travel could cause a person's natural libido to drop. Doctor Florence Comite, from Brooklyn, New York, recommended that people treat their flying habits with care – or potentially see their sex lives suffer.
Dr. Comite, who was educated at Ivy League college Yale Medical School, explained how the anticipation, anxiety, claustrophobia, and worries around lack of space - which often comes with being on an airplane, especially if you're sitting in cramped economy seats - can drive down someone's libido.
According to the doctor, who started her own health app called Groq Health, traveling can release the 'flight-or-fight mechanism' in your brain, which sends out hormones that lower testosterone and effect your sexual function.
Dr. Comite also suggested that those looking to prevent a low libido plan for their trip as far in advance as possible, to avoid feeling stressed out when the time to travel comes.
Some of her other tips included making sure all urgent jobs are done and that you've gotten enough sleep. She recommended getting between six to eight hours of sleep per night, and no less than four. She also suggested avoiding early morning flights where you have to be at the airport at the crack of dawn to check in.
The doctor said: 'Also, meditating turns off the genes that lead to increases in the hormones, by decreasing some you are keeping testosterone where you should be. And it's a great way to make you travel better and feel better.'
