The tip of the iceberg with Tesla problems to come...

Doctor dad-of-five burned to death in his crashed Tesla because car's electronic door handles 'didn't pop out and rescuers couldn't get into vehicle to save him'...

This is the first we're hearing of it, because it was squashed on the news and now only coming to light because of a lawsuit against the car company.
Dr. Omar Awan, 48, died in February 2019 after crashing his Model S on South Flamingo Road in Broward County, Florida. Firefighters were unable to reach the doctor because the retractable door hands didn't pop out. Teslas are meant to have two back-up safety mechanisms. The car firm's vehicles have special door handles which sit flush to the cars body. They retract into the vehicle while it is moving, but can pop out when it stops to let people get inside.
Tesla claims it should have unless the power to the car was 'abruptly' cut off. The family is suing the company, claiming the Model S is 'defective' and the door handles are the reason he died. A medical examiner's report claimed he died from inhaling toxic fumes and from burns, but Tesla alleged he was drunk as his BAC was above legal limits. Tesla is being investigated for many safety concerns, including it's autopilot feature.

  2. One of the early tear-downs of a Tesla showed they have electrical door locks with limited internal backups. The rear seats in their four door had no mechanical component at all, plus you needed an external battery to open the hood or any door if the battery got disconnected.

Hard, hard pass on even riding in a Tesla, much less owning one.
