A veteran rattlesnake handler died on Saturday, April 30, hours after a snake bit him during a show. Eugene De Leon Sr. was bitten on the shoulder during the Rattlesnake Roundup event in Freer, police said. He was flown to a Corpus Christi hospital, where he died, police told the station.
Organizers of the Kendall County Fair Association say De Leon died “doing what he loved, being with the rattlesnakes.” Rattlesnake Roundup is put on by the Freer Chamber of Commerce, which mourned De Leon’s death in a post on Facebook.
“The love and dedication he displayed for his community was witnessed everyday from being a member of the Freer Vol. Fire Department to being a call away for local residents to assist with removing snakes from their property,” the chamber of commerce said. “He was always ready to help. We will never forget his excitement during Roundup time, from doing interviews with television stations to appearing on televised wildlife shows, he did it all.” His sister said De Leon “had a passion for snake handling” and handled rattlers for “many years.”
“He was well loved by those who knew him,” added U.S. Congress candidate Sandra Whitten. “My family and I enjoy watching him handle these deadly snakes with ease, almost like he was simply dancing with them. He had a smile on his face and clearly joy in his heart.” Freer is in southern Texas about 110 miles south of San Antonio.

Flamethrowers are now allowed at Ares Training Facility, the Lake County Commission voted on Tuesday. After rejecting a continuation of the case, the commission voted 4-1 to change the range's 2019 conditional use permit to allow the use of flamethrowers. Commissioner Kirby Smith, who argued for fewer restrictions for the range, was the lone dissenter.
It was the only one of Ares' requests the commission granted. The range had also asked that its hours be expanded and that camping be allowed on site.
“We’re happy with it. We got the flamethrowers added back in, which is a good start for everybody, I think, involved," said Colin Johnson, manger of Ares. "We were hoping to sit down with the neighbors for another 30 days, but unfortunately they wanted to go ahead and push it now.”

Footage later appears to show the attacker being treated by paramedics for an 'injured arm'.

ReplyDeleteAny state looking to outlaw or limit abortions, or to legalize them, would be out of their minds not to put the issue to a complex public vote, probably every 5 years: Do you want 1st trimester medical or medicinal abortions? What about 2nd trimester? What about 3rd? What about, putting down children up to age 5? WTF, if they're going to legalize infanticide, might as well approach it fully. Such a vote might reasonably be open only to actual females, or even only females of ovulating non-minor age (18-45) ... so this will give the legislatures plenty to debate and can keep people riled up for a long time. Which is what this is all about anyway.
Oh, and here comes Covid BA.2.12.1, and BA.4, and BA.5. All are more infectious than BA.2, which was more infectious than original omicron BA.1, which was more infectious that Delta, which was more than Alpha ... just in case the insane inflation, the destroyed economy, the war in Ukraine, and new Ministry of Truth weren't giving you enough stress.
