Well, it is in the Second Amendment, isn't it?

I am a STRONG supporter of the 2nd Amendment,
but this bothers me a 'little'...
A bill that would abolish the need for a background check or a license to carry a gun in public passed the Georgia House on Friday, moving a step closer to the 'constitutional carry' that Gov. Brian Kemp and other Republicans have promised to deliver in an election year.
House Bill 1358 passed 94-57, moving to the Senate for more debate. The Senate passed a similar measure last month.
Republicans said it was needed to allow people to more easily protect themselves from crime, citing civil unrest seen in some 2020 protests over racial injustice in Atlanta.

They also argued that the current process infringes on Second Amendment gun rights. People who want to conceal carry have to apply for a permit, get their fingerprints taken, pass a background check and pay a fee, usually about $75.
Gov. Brian Kemp praised the House for passing the bill in a tweet Friday, adding that he's committed to helping 'Constitutional Carry across the finish line!'
Twenty-one states no longer require a permit to conceal carry, according to the Pew Charitable Trusts.
The U.S. Supreme Court is considering whether New York's permitting process, one of the most restrictive in the country, violates the Second Amendment. Experts have said they expect New York will be forced to rewrite its rules.

  1. An armed society is a polite society....I keep mine handy whenever I leave the house, just in case someone threatens to borrow my car without my permission...if it were common knowledge that every driver had a handy sidearm, the incident of attempted car hijacking would fall dramatically, as would rapes, and store thefts and home invasions....

  2. The problem children are already carrying without paying fees and getting background checks; why shouldn't the law-abiding citizens have the same right.

And if SCOTUS comes down on the side of the gun owners, NY will re-write the laws all right, using the laws of DC as a model.

  3. If constitutional carry laws bother you, you are NOT a supporter of the 2nd amend.

  4. It bothers you? Then change the Amendment instead of trying to do an end run around it with bullshit laws about "reasonable regulation."

Some people's free speech and religious affiliation bothers me too, but I don't try to infringe on it so that they can't infringe on mine.

  5. You've been programed. Do you seriously think requiring a background check or a license will stop anyone wanting to use a gun in a illegal manor? Take responsibility for your own safety, the cops are not responsible for your safety (per several court rulings). Should you be required to get a license for you to vote in addition to a ID? Perhaps you should be forced to get a license for you to move away from New Jersey. Florida is getting overrun from yankees moving in. I would be all for them putting a limit on you guys coming down here. Like maybe 10/year. Want to move here, apply for a license. The US Constitution is a all or nothing deal. Don't cherry pick what you want. If you want New Jersey, I-95 runs north.

  8. To BUY a gun you still need a bacckground check (aside from private sales), so requiring another is just.. stupid.
