The greatest year in music in MY life...

1971 was a bellweather year for rock music. Sadly, most of these songs have been ground in to dust by 'classic rock' stations,
but we still love 'em...

Here's what they say are the top 25 songs of the year

1
Stairway To Heaven
Led Zeppelin
(If I never hear it again, all the better)
2
Imagine
John Lennon
(If I never hear it again, all the better)
3
What's Going On
Marvin Gaye

  2. I agree mostly too. As good as so many of these tunes are, I've heard them 809 trillion times each. And they're played out. If I never ever ever hear The Beatles "today is your birthday" again, should I live to be 300, I'll be fine with that.

Tunes from the early 80s are in the same boat, but never had as much longevity. Anything made past 1996 is total crap anyway, so who cares?

And this is why I've learned to appreciate modern-ish country music. Actual lyrics, actual musicians playing actual instruments, and most of the time the lyrics pertain to events in normal life, vs "muh dick muh dick, gonna bussacap on deez hoes, all y'all suh muh dick". Call it modern country, call it southern rock, whatever you want, it's the closest thing to actual rock still out there. Oh, and I'll throw in vacation music too, tunes that make you want to take time off ... Jimmy Buffet, Zac Brown Band, etc. Fun stuff you can sing along to in your car.

yeah, I'm old. But not THAT old. 11 in 1971.

    1. I like the reference to 'modern' country. I live in horse and cow country here in Florida and it cracks me up to see these redneck dooshbag wiggers listening to fuckin' hip-hop..
