The billionaire oligarch looked grey, tired and thin as he appeared to flee Tel Aviv in his private jet yesterday lunchtime - just hours after Israel said it will not be a safe place for sanctioned oligarchs. The Chelsea football club owner was pictured in the VIP lounge of Ben Gurion Airport staring intently at his phone with a face mask pulled over his chin shortly before the aircraft took off for Turkey.
Last night the same plane took off for Russia, landing in Moscow at around 3am UK time this morning. The flights put the $75million Gulfstream beyond the reach of Israel and the European Union, which yesterday agreed to sanction Abramovich. Last night a BBC Panorama documentary accused him of being 'Putin's money man' and said it had uncovered new evidence about alleged corrupt deals that made his gigantic fortune.
One expert claimed he had 'stolen billions' from the Russian taxpayer. His lawyers insist there is no basis for alleging he amassed any of his wealth through criminality. But now the EU is sanctioning him because they claim his cash is oiling the machines of Russia's war. Politico, who says they have seen a draft of the document, claims it says Abramovich enjoys 'privileged access' to Vladimir Putin and these 'very good relations' line his own pockets in industries that offered 'a substantial source of revenue' to the Kremlin, helping Moscow fund its invasion of Ukraine.
The UK sanctioned him last week because the government suspected that Evraz, the steel giant he controls, is alleged to have supplied steel to produce Putin's army of tanks Today his £445million superyacht Solaris is travelling in a straight line apparently to remain in international waters after fleeing Montenegro waters for Turkey yesterday.
His other boat, the 533ft Eclipse, worth £537million, is also sailing east after leaving the Caribbean island of St Martin last week.

"Joe Biden came into the White House vowing to restore American leadership on the world stage. But the tumultuous end to the war in Afghanistan last year shook Americans’ confidence in their new commander-in-chief, raising doubts about his competence and judgment and sending his approval ratings tumbling.
Now Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has given Biden a second chance to demonstrate the steady leadership he promised, raising hopes among Democrats that the White House’s efforts to punish Moscow for its shocking aggression will resonate with voters in this year’s midterm elections.
Democrats face stiff headwinds in their attempt to defy historical trends and maintain their narrow majorities in Congress. Among their biggest obstacles are Biden’s deep unpopularity and the rising cost of gas, food and rent, for which Republicans have faulted Democrats.
At the Democrats’ annual retreat in Philadelphia last week, party leaders spoke of a world – and an electorate – reshaped by Russia’s invasion of its democratic neighbor. They said the conflict provided a new clarity of purpose – and a new villain to take Donald Trump's place: Russian leader Vladimir Putin."

Somebody's gotta talk to these media idiots - print/online/TV/radio people - and tell them emphatically that we just do not give a fuck about either of these two jackasses. Honest to god - why does anyone give a flying rat's-ass fuck about either one? This shit has to stop. It HAS to...

Russian conscripts captured by Ukrainian forces say they were deceived into believing the war was a military training exercise and have apologised for attacking Ukraine 'like fascists'. The five Russian captives, who were all called up for military service in June 2021, spoke at a media briefing at the Ukraine Media Centre in Kyiv, where they told of their shame for the invasion of Ukraine. One told of how his battalion ran out of food and their equipment kept breaking just a few days into the Russian invasion, leaving them with only six tanks out of the 30 they started with, and other said that soldiers were deceived into believing they were doing drills in fields of Russian territory, where they were given rations which were expired for years

Those Russian prisoners (and possibly their families) are about to find out what happened to captured Soviet soldiers under Stalin. Hello Gulag! Hello Siberia!
ReplyDeletePrisoners statements are not dependable except as propaganda. I recall when captured US pilots made "confessions" for the North Vietnamese as well. How quickly so many forget.
