Is this the Apocalypse they promised us?

Are we approaching the end of days? It seems as if the entire world got bit by a stupid bug...

Murphy’s Law applies to everyone -  but not Phil Murphy’s law, apparently

Fresh off announcing that an internal review has concluded that his administration 'handled the risks of coronavirus outbreaks in nursing homes just fine', New Jersey governor Phil Murphy is announcing that the state will now require citizens to wear masks outdoors in circumstances where social distancing is impossible.

Murphy acknowledges that implementing this order will be difficult, as certain public locations may change from crowded to not-crowded and back as people move around. While wearing masks in outdoor locations when close to others is a good idea, it is not difficult to picture significant legal challenges in enforcing any penalties. “Your honor, when the officer wrote up that ticket for not wearing a mask, the only person who was within six feet of my client was the officer himself.”

On May 6, the governor signed Executive Order 148, barring outdoor gatherings of more than 25 people. On June 8, while that order was still in effect, Murphy participated in two separate protest marches, both involving hundreds of people. Murphy demanded the state government of New Jersey and its state police do more to fight racial disparity in law enforcement. (If only Phil Murphy was in a position to do something about how the state police operates.)

The day after attending those protests, after Republicans pointed out Murphy was violating his own order, Murphy changed the law to exempt “First Amendment protected outdoor activities such as political protests of any persuasion or outdoor religious services.”

The exceptions to the rule about wearing a mask sound like they were written by a nine-year-old:

  •  You are eating or drinking outdoors at a restaurant or bar.
  • A face covering endangers your health and safety.
  • You are a child under the age of 2.
  • You are walking alone or with your family in your neighborhood, a park, or beach.
  • You can keep 6 feet or more from people other than your family members, caretakers, household members, or romantic partners.
  • You are “engaging in high-intensity aerobic or anaerobic activities.”
  • You are in water.
  • You have to briefly remove the mask for religious reasons.
  • You are in an outdoor space at child-care centers facilities and youth summer camps.

Heck of a job, New Jersey.
Heck of a job.

A wooden sculpture of first lady Melania Trump near her hometown in Slovenia was set on fire the night of July 4, according to the artist who commissioned the piece.

Brad Downey, a Berlin-based American artist, told Reuters the wooden sculpture near Trump’s hometown of Sevnica was torched. “I want to know why they did it,” Downey said.

Is it possible it got torched because it sucked?

The Washington Redskins are going to remove 'Native American' imagery from their logo.

As the Washington football team continues to evaluate its Redskins name, it already has made a monumental decision moving forward. The team has made the obvious decision to remove the Native American imagery from its logo. Some have suggested an image a little more 'palatable':

Oh, to be a fly on the wall in THAT house...

Kanye West running for president might actually help Donald Trump as West could siphon off Black votes from the Democratic nominee, but West likened that thought to racism: “I’m not denying it, I just told you. To say that the Black vote is Democratic is a form of racism and white supremacy.” West has never voted in his life.

The pussification of America is going
full-throttle now.

In the wake of the Ivy League announcing Wednesday that fall sports will not be held during the upcoming semester because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., called on other college sports conferences to do the same.

“There's absolutely nothing different between the Ivy League and any division except for the money, to be very blunt,” Blumenthal said. “It's about the money. And if the other schools fail to follow the Ivy League's lead, it will be only because of the money. And, in fact, it will be another misguided act in a long litany of putting school profits ahead of the people who play for them.”

I do enjoy doing these on occasion.

This just in from the 'YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS SHIT UP' Department:

A national coalition of labor unions, along with racial and social justice organizations, will stage a mass walkout from work this month, as part of an ongoing reckoning on systemic racism and police brutality in the U.S.

Dubbed the “Strike for Black Lives,” tens of thousands of fast food, ride-share, nursing home and airport workers in more than 25 cities are expected to walk off the job July 20 for a full day strike. Those who can’t strike for a full day will walk out for about eight minutes — the amount of time prosecutors say a white Minneapolis police officer held his knee on George Floyd’s neck — in remembrance of Black men and women who died recently at the hands of police.

You know 190-proof Everclear by reputation. The bartender’s equivalent of jet fuel, this high-octane neutral grain spirit is more than twice the strength of standard vodka, and is illegal in 11 states. Art Alexakis, the frontman of the 1990s post-grunge band Everclear, once referred to the liquor as “pure white evil.” Bushwick Bill, the late rapper from the Geto Boys, claimed that he shot himself in the eye in 1991 while plastered on Everclear and PCP.

In an upside-down coronavirus economy where big-ticket indulgences (Caribbean cruises, luxury hotel suites) collapsed in value, and ordinary household items like toilet paper and flour started to trade like Bitcoin, Everclear was suddenly flying off liquor store shelves, as a substitute for drugstore hand sanitizers and other disinfectants.

Did any of these politicians think any of this anti-cop sentiment bullshit all the way through? Did they really think the guys would just put up with their bullshit. I can't blame 'em. Fuck it - run for the door.

The bigger problem is gonna be down the road when the cities and states can no longer pay the pensions.

Oh, c'mon now - that's really fucked up.

Lady Antebellum announced plans last month to re-brand  themselves 'Lady A' because of the word antebellum's association to slavery

The name 'Lady A' has already been in use for over two decades, by Seattle blues singer Anita White, 61, left. The Grammy-winning vocal group said the Seattle singer and her team 'have demanded a $10m payment' prompting the band to 'reluctantly' file a trademark lawsuit. Lady A filed the lawsuit after negotiations with White broke down. The band say they were even planning on writing a song with White that could have been released as a joint single.

The list of companies going belly up because of this bullshit here in the US is gonna be mind-numbing before this is all over and done (if it ever actually will be).

Britain's jobs bloodbath has gathered pace as more than 55,000 workers now face redundancy (that's what they call getting shit-canned) just this week alone. The retailer John Lewis, Rolls Royce and Burger King have become the latest firms to announce layoffs.

Companies in the UK - and all of Europe as well -  are in a  desperate battle to stay afloat after being battered by the coronavirus pandemic for nearly four months.

I didn't realize they're an international company. I was shocked when I saw them in the UK and Ireland.

Alimentation Couche-Tard — a Canada-based convenience-store giant whose chain of nearly 8,000 Circle K stores in the US includes 5,900 gas stations — has launched a process to sell 1,250 gas stations that are near Speedways, sources close to the situation said.

Couche-Tard is looking to raise about $4 billion with the sale, which would likely be contingent on a deal to buy all of Speedway’s 3,800 locations from Marathon Petroleum. Marathon, which recently revived an auction of Speedway after it got derailed in March by the coronavirus, is being prodded by billionaire Paul Singer to divest Speedway.

If you’ve ever dreamed of living in an island paradise, that fantasy could now become a reality. As remote working becomes the new normal, Barbados is hoping to turn its beaches, adjacent to crystal-blue waters, into your new outdoor office.

The Caribbean country is set to introduce a “12-month Barbados Welcome Stamp,” which would allow visitors from overseas to stay for an entire year and work remotely, according to a speech made by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley last week. “You can come here and work for a couple months at a time; go back and come back,” she said.

Mottley acknowledged the difficulty of short-term travel, with coronavirus restrictions and mandated quarantines, but a yearlong stay could help jumpstart the island’s economy.

  1. So NYFC PD is limiting the number of officers that can apply for retirement, huh?

I'll venture to say that those "delayed" officers are going on the ROAD Program--"Retired On Active Duty.'"
