A Japanese guy who got his certificate as the world’s oldest man with a raised fist and big smiles earlier this month has died at 112. Guinness World Records had given the certificate to Chitetsu Watanabe on Feb. 12. The organization and the funeral home handling his services confirmed Tuesday he had died Sunday. No cause was given.

Watanabe is survived by his five children, 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild, Mainichi said.

Honest to God I don't think I'd wanna live that long. My mind may be changed on this, however...

A NICE LITTLE STORY.

N.J. vet finally gets the service medals
he earned 74 years ago

His three Navy medals from World War II were long overdue.

Thomas Simpson, 92, a former River Vale police chief, knew he deserved to receive them. He was in Okinawa, Japan, a 17-year-old ship cook, fresh out of Bergenfield High School.

Simpson was assigned to a landing craft tank, an amphibious ship that carried a tank and its crew. But after his service from 1944 to 1946, Simpson didn’t apply for the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, or the World War II Victory Medal.

He didn’t think about the medals until his grandson, David Hulsizer, jokingly asked about his service. Simpson called on his dear friend, Old Tappan Mayor John Kramer, for assistance.

“I always considered him my mentor," said Kramer, former Old Tappan police chief and 60-year friend.

Kramer reached out to Rep. Josh Gottheimer, (D-5th Dist.), who cut through red tape to secure the medals from the federal government. Gottheimer visited Simpson Monday, giving him the medals at Sunrise of Old Tappan, an assisted living facility, where Simpson and his wife reside.

Sen. Chuck Schumer confirms spending $8,600 on Junior's cheesecake

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer admitted Sunday that he has dropped almost $9,000 on his favorite cheesecake over the years.  Holding a platter of the rich dessert aloft at a news conference, Schumer responded to a New York Post report that said Federal Election Commission filings reveal he spent $8,600 on cheesecake from Junior's, a restaurant that boasts it has the best cheesecake in New York, over the course of a decade. "Guilty as charged," the New York Democrat confessed.

Yankees' Stanton takes aim at Astros:
I would've hit 80-plus homers if I knew pitches

New York Yankees star Giancarlo Stanton said he would have hit more than 80 home runs in 2017 if he knew signs like the Houston Astros.

"If knew what was coming in '17, I probably would have hit 80-plus home runs," Stanton – the 2017 National League MVP – told reporters midweek.

Stanton, who is a four-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger Award winner, added: "They did their investigation and it was clear-cut that they cheated that year, which means it should be taken away.
