It's just entirely too nice today to not have a few beers.
I heading for my favorite watering hole - Gator Joe's...
It's unusual in inland Florida to find a place like this on a white sand beach. Most Florida lakes have marshy shores and their beach alone makes this bar and grill a popular destination for both locals and tourists.
...
It's on the water on Lake Wier in Ocklawaha, Florida.

Dead nuts smack dab in the middle of the state.
About 15 minutes from my house. I love this part of Florida. Bet you didn't even know it existed.
The little town made national headlines back in January 1935 when it was the scene of a shootout between the FBI and the notorious Barker gang.
Arizona Baker, known as Ma, had several sons who ran a criminal gang in the midwest. Ma traveled around with her sons as they robbed banks and kidnapped and murdered people.
J. Edgar Hoover and the FBI had the gang on the public enemies list and were eager to capture them.

Where the I-10 dips down to New Orleans, the I-12 picks up and goes to Baton Rouge and becomes the I-10 again on Westward.. Meanwhile on the I-12 'ya hit the I-55 at Hammond around the 40 mile marker... take the I-55 south get up on the "Hi-Rise" on the other side of Ponchatoula and head on down to Exit 15 (Manchac) get off, go under the bridge hang a right on the "Low Road" and cross the "OLD BRIDGE!!" Right dead nuts at the bottom turn left into the parking lot of "THE GATOR'S DEN!!!!!!!!!!" 194 Old Hwy 51 South, Manchac (Akers), La., 70421 985-386-7902 "My Haunt!!!!!"
Blue skies!!!,

Lookin' good Billy Ray!
ReplyDeleteGator Joe's looks like just the kind of place I'd expect on a Florida beach, even inland. We have a place in Seattle a little like it called Westward that is on a white sand beach on north Lake Union. No white sand naturally around here, though. Hope to get there some time.
ReplyDeleteHere is a place in a small town in the Lower Yakima Valley in south central Washington, the real heart of wine country, hops production, wheat and other agriculture, and the like. To the south of the Yakima River is a plateau that runs for miles down to the Columbia River, call the Horse Heaven Hills. Rolling wheat fields as far as you can see. This link is to the Horse Heaven Saloon and its brewery, the Horse Heaven Hills Brewery in this small town where I have a getaway home. I know most of the folks in the video and, yep, the upstairs rooms look just like what you see. Well, you know, cowpokes and all. Hope you like it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kp1TNLeytZI
