It's almost friggin'
Labor Day already.
That's impossible to believe...
As we get older, time definitely compresses.
Today is Robert Plant's 71st birthday.
I always the liked the band but 'classic rock radio' is killing them.
My brain'll explode if I hear Stairway or 'Rock n roll' again. To be honest, I've seen them (back in the 70's) 4 or 5 times and I was never impressed by their live performances. Especially Jimmy Page. Maybe he was hammered all the time or something, but he is sloppy as fuck live.

Guitar gods?
There's a new breed of slingers out there like Bonomassa and others, but back in the 60's and 70's and into the 80's there were spectacular players who were mostly overlooked. I'm sure you've got your own favorites, but are a few of mine:
Rory Gallagher - Messin' with the kid
...
Pat Travers - Snortin' Whiskey
...
Jorma Kaukonen - Water Song
...
Leslie West. This is Mountain live in '71.
The thing about him is that most great guitar players today idolize him for what he did (and can still do). He wasn't flashy or super-fast, he just had the 'it'. The man rocks.
...
Alvin Lee. The first of the truly jet-age, super-fast pickers. Died way too young. This is, of course, live at Woodstock 50 years ago this week.
...
and then, of course, there is:
Can you add someone to this list?
Go for it.
Two of my favorites are Frank Zappa and Adrian Belew. Zappa is closer to a contemporary of those you listed, Belew a little bit later.
