Miss Elaineous...

On July 29, 1945...

After delivering parts of the first atomic bomb to the island of Tinian, the U.S.S. Indianapolis is sunk by a Japanese submarine. The survivors are adrift for two days before help arrives.

At 0015 on 30 July, the ship was torpedoed by the Imperial Japanese Navy submarine I-58, and sank in 12 minutes. Of 1,195 crewmen aboard, approximately 300 went down with the ship. The remaining 890 faced exposure, dehydration, saltwater poisoning, and shark attacks while stranded in the open ocean with few lifeboats and almost no food or water. Because of tight security measures that were in place at the time, the Navy only learned of the sinking four days later, when survivors were spotted by the crew of a PV-1 Ventura on routine patrol. Only 316 survived. The sinking of Indianapolis resulted in the greatest single loss of life at sea, from a single ship, in the history of the US Navy.

On 19 August 2017, a search team financed by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen located the wreckage of the sunken cruiser in the Philippine Sea lying at a depth of approximately 18,000 ft . On 20 December 2018, the crew of the Indianapolis was collectively awarded a Congressional Gold Medal.

In the movie  JAWS, Capt. Quint tells the story of the survivors in graphic detail.
Here's the clip:

...

Chrissie's Last Swim Scene

That's pretty much the best part of the whole movie.

...

This is Susan Backlinie. If you didn't know who she is, she's a former actress and stuntwoman. She is almost only nearly kinda famous for her role as Chrissie Watkins, the first shark victim in that first scene in Jaws.

...

So you think sharks are dangerous, right?

Think again...

There’s just a one in 1,384,594 chance of being killed by an animal in the United States, but you should still be extra careful around this species:

Depending on where you live, this may or may not come as a surprise: Deer are the deadliest animal in the United States, killing an average of 120 Americans annually. It’s not because they’re vicious, though; most of these deaths are caused by car accidents, especially as urban development continues to shrink the animal’s natural habitat. And compared to global data on deadly animals, death-by-deer hardly makes a blip in the numbers.

In a typical year, one American is fatally attacked by a shark. ONE.

...

And then there's this lovely British couple.

This is a story that's truly twisted.
So you'll definitely read all about it.
(SOME TRULY SICK SHIT GOING ON OVER THERE, BOY...)

...

They do have some mighty pretty girls over there, though...

...

This broad will still be around 20 years after me and you are long dead.

She was crowned June 2, 1953 - four months before I was born!

1. Westminster Abbey has been the setting for every Coronation since 1066. Before the Abbey was built, Coronations were carried out wherever was convenient, taking place in Bath, Oxford and Canterbury.

2. Queen Elizabeth II was crowned on 2 June, 1953 in Westminster Abbey. Her Majesty was the thirty-ninth Sovereign to be crowned at Westminster Abbey.

3. Queen Elizabeth II is the sixth Queen to have been crowned in Westminster Abbey in her own right. The first was Queen Mary I, who was crowned on 1 October, 1553.

4. The Queen succeeded to the Throne on the 6 February, 1952 on the death of her father, King George VI. She was in Kenya at the time and became the first Sovereign in over 200 years to accede while abroad.

5. The Queen's grandmother, Queen Mary, aged 81 was the first Queen to see a grandchild ascend to the throne. However, she died before the Coronation took place.

...

If I feel old, imagine how SHE feels...

...

And she does wear some pretty friggin' stupid hats and outfits.

...

We gotta get outta here - how did I get on this chick anyway? CYA.

...

Off topic (of course - I always am...)

Are you a fan of the writer Robert Parker like I am?
I especially like the Jesse Stone books - it's hard to read the books and not see Tom Selleck as Jesse. If you haven't read any, here's a way to find them all in one place.
