Operation Cottage? Never heard of it...
In the summer of 1943, American and Canadian forces launched an amphibious assault on the north Pacific island of Kiska. Codenamed Cottage, the operation was intended to seize the last enemy stronghold on North American soil from Japanese occupiers. The assault began in the predawn hours of August 15 with a heavy coastal barrage by an armada of nearly 100 Allied warships. Intense fire support was followed by a chaotic but successful ship-to-shore movement of over 34,000 U.S. Army and Canadian combat infantrymen. For 2 long days, the invasion force slugged its way inland through thick fog and against the constant din of machinegun and artillery fire.
By the time the island was declared secure, over 300 Allied soldiers lay dead or seriously wounded. Japanese casualties? There were none. The Japanese had abandoned the island almost 3 weeks prior.

Bar patrons are raising a glass to a local Idaho saloon after its viral social media post promised “free beer” to anyone who helps Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) track down and deport an illegal immigrant. The Old State Saloon alerted its followers Saturday, writing on X that “anyone who helps ICE identify and ultimately deport an illegal from Idaho gets FREE BEER FOR ONE MONTH” at its establishment.
The watering hole, located in Eagle, Idaho, added that it “may award multiple months to one person if multiple illegals are deported.” Anyone trying to claim their free beer is asked to send evidence, including photos and videos, to deportations@oldstatesaloon.com.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reposted the saloon’s promotion with a GIF highlighting their amazement with the offer. The bar enthusiastically replied, “Let’s go! Deport them all!”
One user responded to the announcement, asking if the saloon could create a leaderboard and champion a “Deporter of the Year” at the end of the year who wins even more free beer. At least one person has already been approved by the saloon.

This is the historic Bahia Honda Rail Bridge in the Florida Keys. The bridge is a famous landmark, known for its engineering history and scenic views. The bridge was originally part of Henry Flagler's Florida East Coast Railway extension, completed in 1912. It was later converted for use as part of the Overseas Highway after the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane.
A new bridge was built in 1980, and sections of the old bridge were removed to facilitate boat traffic. The remaining structure is now a popular spot for pedestrians, cyclists, and photographers, located within Bahia Honda State Park.
