The Hughes Fire in Castaic, which broke out Wednesday, has put more than 50,000 people under evacuation orders and warnings in the northern Los Angeles County community, authorities say. It has burned 10,176 acres in L.A. and Ventura counties and was 14% contained as of Thursday morning.
Fires across the L.A. area have killed at least 28 people, destroyed more than 15,000 structures and charred some 63 square miles. The Palisades and Eaton wildfires continue to burn today.
"Critical fire conditions" and red-flag warnings for Santa Ana winds are in effect for Los Angeles and neighboring Ventura counties, according to forecasters. Some rain is forecast for the weekend, which is raising concern about possible mudslides and flooding due to burn scars.
In San Diego County, south of Los Angeles, firefighters have battled several smaller blazes that broke out this week.
Somewhere along the line when all is said and done and the fires are contained, any number of civic leaders need to have their feet held to the fire - no pun intended - on how and why these regularly-occuring, natural incidents are not planned and prepared for. It makes no sense for them to piss away so many billions of tax dollars on bullshit like gay pride flags, trains to nowhere and tranny bathrooms when lives could be saved with good, sensible logistics planning and forestry management...
