My father on his Harley back in 1951...

 
 When my father left the Navy at the end of the war, he 
immediately joined the Newark, NJ PD. After a couple of years on regular patrol duty, he got his dream assignment - he got his own motorcycle for patrol and protection duties. Until the day he died he said that was his favorite detail, even after 38+ years on the job and rising to the rank of Inspector (second in command of the force)...
