'God's Square Mile', a New Jersey Christian enclave, is a tiny little speck of a town just south of Asbury Park. You can literally walk the boardwalk between the two. I used to live in the town next to it, and I can tell you - it is a cool little place to live if you can tolerate the Methodist ethics of the town.
Now liberal politicans are saying their religion is 'out of touch with the times', and as such the town fathers could be stopped from banning people from using public beaches on Sunday mornings.
The state of New Jersey - the fucking STATE - is suing the religious group in a case that could result in the community being charged $25,000 a day in fines for violating beach access laws. The Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association, which owns all the land in the small town of Ocean Grove including the beach, claims the policy is in accordance with its religious belief about the Lord's Day.

ReplyDeleteI vaguely remember that on Sundays, they would place a chain across the access road to Ocean Grove, to prevent outsiders from driving on their roads on the Sabbath .
