The story about the fuse made me think - before WWII, the US spent an enormous amount of money on the Norden bombsight, and kept it a Top Secret . Of course, to actually use it, you have to fly over enemy territory, and the first plane to go down reveals the secret . I guess they didn't care if the Germans discovered it - they were probably more worried about the Brits and French !
