Welcome to Georgia. Yes - that Georgia. Our Georgia. The city of Atlanta will subsidize steep discounts on electric bicycles for city residents as part of a new program designed to 'cut down on traffic congestion and greenhouse gas emissions'. City Council voted on Monday to put $1 million into the program, which by this spring should allow Atlantans over 18 to walk into a partnering bike shop and get up to $2,000 off as an instant rebate.
“Once this first wave of dollars goes and I think we see how many folks are interested ... I’m looking forward to refilling this bucket with more money to make this opportunity available to more residents,” said Council Member Matt Westmoreland, who helped spearhead the initiative over a year ago. He also said the city was making progress on its backlog of unbuilt bike lanes and other safety infrastructure.
Atlanta joins cities such as Denver and Boston that have launched their own e-bike rebate programs.
Three-quarters of the rebate funds are reserved for those earning at or below 80% of the region’s median household income, currently about $54,000 a year for one person or $77,000 for a four-person family. Income-qualified residents are eligible for a $1,500 instant rebate on a standard e-bike and $2,000 for a cargo e-bike. Residents who do not qualify for the larger discount based on income can still get $500 for a standard e-bike and $1,000 for a cargo e-bike.

Silly question - if Epstein's dead, why does he need defending? The article doesn't say anything about this, but it says a lot of other shit about a lot of elitist scumbag friends this dirtball had. Hmmm...

An Atlanta restaurant was threatened for charging diners an extra four percent health insurance fee after its employees' premiums tripled last year. JenChan's, a family-owned 'fusion restaurant' in southeast Atlanta, Georgia, added a four percent charge to diners' checks to provide insurance for its full-time employees.
Most customers have been supportive, but a few were upset about paying a dollar or two and sent threats on social media platforms. I does believe that friggin' joint won't make it to the end of the year. Juss' sayin'...

Look for eBikes on eBay, the day after the program goes active.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who orders "vegan pork" fried rice and General Tsao's veggie tofu deserves to be overcharged. But if they don't make that surcharge voluntary, I predict a lot of pissed off people who won't be coming back.
ReplyDeleteSubsidized e-bikes for Atlanta? I hope they increase the funding for the fire department. They're going to need it.
ReplyDeleteAtlanta e-bike stores are going to do a roaring business until brand-new ones start showing up in the area pawnshops.
ReplyDeleteThen they'll reach equilibrium, and neither will be able to sell them.
All landlords should be able to sue the City when the cheap-ass e-bikes that get purchased burn their apartment buildings down.
ReplyDeleteStop with the surcharge nonsense. Raise your prices to cover your costs.
ReplyDeleteI recently stayed a few days in Cedar Key for a little vacation time. I had originally planned on going around Labor Day but Hurricane Idalia put an end to those plans. Merchants are now trying to recover economically which is another reason I wanted to visit. I figure they could use my money as much as I could use the time away. However, many of them are gouging customers with much higher than normal prices and 4-5% surcharges for using a credit card. Two separate restaurants charged me $1 for a glass of TAP water - not the bottled stuff. My complaints were not met with any sympathy and they refused to remove the charge. Well, I'll be damned if I'm going to be the one to ultimately pay such a ridiculous charge. So, yeah, I paid the bill, but guess how much the waitresses' tip was reduced to offset it? It's a shame for an owner to make his staff be the ones to suffer for their own greed. They also lost the revenue I would have spent by returning the following evening and I let them know it, but they could not have cared less.
ReplyDeleteIn another case, a famous brand of clam chowder has a restaurant in town. They can their chowder and sell it both at the restaurant as well in most Publix stores in FL. I was going to buy many cans of the stuff to give to family as Christmas presents, but they wanted almost $3 (over 50%) more per can that what I can buy the same stuff for in Publix. No thanks! I'll just buy it there.
