No one has a sense of humor anymore...

“Use Yah Blinkah.” “Don’t drive star-spangled hammered.” “Hocus pocus, drive with focus.” Thanks to federal regulators, these slogans will no longer appear on highway signs across the United States as of 2026.
The US Federal Highway Administration is cracking down on the use of jokes and pop-culture references in overhead electronic signs, arguing that the messages can distract drivers.
Under the new guidelines, which were laid out in a new 1,100-page manual on America’s signs and other traffic-control devices, signs cannot display messages intended to be humorous or with pop culture references, or anything that could “diminish respect for the sign”.
Seriously - is this also some kinda DEI bullshit that a sign demands respect somehow? WTF is this world coming to?

BusinessInsider.com did a pretty good job of pointing out how fuckin' inane these new regulations are. Take a gander:

I found this tiny dish (I use it as a spoon rest) at a street market in Deruta, Italy about 15years ago and brought it home for my mother. When she passed away I kept it as a sort of momento and never gave any thought to it's meaning. Finally yesterday I googled the phrase and it turns out to be a rather famous quote in Italy.
The Italian proverb "L'amore fa passare il tempo e il tempo fa passare l'amore" or translated as "Love makes time pass and time makes love pass" represents a bitter reflection on the feeling that binds a couple
Among the many Italian proverbs focused on love there is one, " Love makes time pass and time makes love pass ", which has a bitter aftertaste. According to the author of this disenchanted reflection, in fact, this feeling is destined to run out over the years and is therefore not eternal, as other ways of saying say.

According to former Mississippi Department of Transportation Executive Director Melinda McGrath, “An engaged public is a safe public, so we want to give everyone the opportunity to come up with their own fun safety messages.”
The new guy evidently doesn't agree. Grumpy fuck...

From NPR - A power line fell on a parked car in northeast Portland, Oregon, on Wednesday, killing three people and injuring a baby during an ice storm that turned roads and mountain highways treacherous in the Pacific Northwest. Shortly before noon, dispatchers started receiving frantic calls about a downed power line and people appearing to be electrocuted, according to a statement from the city's fire department. A branch had fallen on a power line, causing it to fall onto an SUV.

  1. One traffic sign will stay though: "Dial *123 to report distracted driving".

  2. The US Federal Highway Administration is proving that they have run out of useful things to do, so it's time to reduce their headcount and cut their budget. Obnoxious busybodies given too much authority. Classic.

  3. "Phasing out humorous [idiotic] Road PSA flashy signs by 2026"...??? Why does it take government morons to stop something 2-3 years later, why not tomorrow?

They say 'follow the money', but in reality, the money follows the trends...

Maybe the guy really is the smartest man in the world. Everyone said he paid too much, and that X/Twitter would crash and burn in his hands,...
