I don't think this scam is unique to Florida, but it sure as fuck is happening more and more often around this neck of the woods.
Amanda Brochu said shortly after she listed her home for sale, people started showing up trying to measure her driveway. Then just as she was preparing to head out of town for the holidays, the single mom got a doorbell camera notification that crews were outside of her house tearing up the concrete. 'I come home and my driveway is gone.' The Florida resident appears to be the victim of an elaborate scam where a driveway is 'wrongly' removed before another company comes along and offers to replace it for a fee - usually about twice the average cost under different circumstances.

DeleteYou're lucky if they fill out a report. A nut job tried to car jack a friend in California, leaving his blood all over her car as he tried to break the window. The cops couldn't be bothered to take a report. "Nobody was killed. Nobody was injured. The DA won't prosecute. Why bother?"
DeleteI don't have much faith in political polling, and I have even less faith in the integrity of elections. That being said, a return to the rule of law, and a far greater public knowledge of the Constitution would be a very nice thing.
ReplyDeleteOver at AmericanGreatness there is an essay showing why Nikki Haley is NOT eligible to be President or Vice President. This is once again over "that natural born citizen thing". That "thing" has not been removed from our Constitution by Amendment or any other means: it is still the law of the land.
Over the past couple generations the meaning of Natural Born Citizen has be deliberately corrupted. It has nothing whatsoever to do with birthright citizenship. It is not an arcane or unknown concept, and was perfectly clear to our Founding Fathers and the entire US citizenry up to around 1990. It comes straight from Vattel's 1758 treatise The Law of Nations. A natural born citizen is someone born in this country or it's territories AND born to parents who were both citizens at the time of the birth. Period, that's it. It is a job qualification that applies to exactly TWO positions in our entire nation: The President and the Vice President. It has nothing to do with the 14th Amendment, and it has nothing to do with the old Wong Kim Ark SCOTUS decision. It applies to all who would run for the office, regardless of race or gender.
We have had 3 terms of Presidents who never should have been allowed to run: Chester Arthur, who lied about his background and burned his records, served one term. Barack Obama who served two terms. In Obama's case his place of birth (Kenya or Hawaii?) is secondary: his father Barack Sr, was never a US citizen. And that's all there is to it.
We currently have a Vice President who is not a natural born citizen as well. She can never be President, and it's an affront to our founding principles that she is allowed to keep the VP job. And that's all there is to it. We have had plenty of potential candidates in the last few decades who ignored the rule as well.
Nikki Haley's parents did not become citizens until long after she was born. She was born here, so she's a citizen by birth, but she is NOT a natural born citizen and is thus not eligible to hold the office.
Ok, the Supreme Court has never made a ruling on the meaning of the term. Do they really have to? There have been a good number of "highly respected" law professors (wanna bet they're all Democrats?) who have shown their ineptitude and their political bias by claiming that there is no difference between a NBC and someone who is born here.
