The world was a little different back in 1954...

  1. I just bought myself a Kimber 1911 this am. Merry Christmas to me.

  2. it was a more genteel society then and men were real men in most areas at that time. 50 dollars was a weeks pay for many. it's all about perspective. in 1979 i made 120 a week working a 40 hr job for minimum wage. 2.10 an hr before taxes didn't leave much. hardy enough to live on. that lesson in life has taught me frugality. my wife says i'm stingy but she hasn't missed any meals.
does colt still make those autos?

  3. Ordered myself a Taurus snubbing chamber in.327. One of the “new” wonder bullets. Supposed to hit like 357 but have less felt recoil than a 38. We shall see.

  4. last year, at the Sportsman's warehouse to pick up 22lr on sale. came across the Springfield SA-35 in the display case. well, I bought it. I did own 2 other Hi Powers in the past. lost one in the divorce. sold the other to pay medical bills- god bless blue cross ! anyway, it is a lot better than the one ones, doesn't bite for one thing.
so, I guess that was my Christmas gift last year. I did also get 22lr for the grandson to shoot this past summer too while I was there. this year, a little tight. maybe next year. dave in pa.

  5. Everything changed after GCA '68. I bought my first rifle at age 14 (1960) from a Drug Store in Bordentown NJ. It was $35. I paid $5 per week until it was paid off and the only question I was ever asked was, "do your parents know you're buying this?" I said yes and he wrapped it up in brown paper. 2 years later, I traded a cocker spaniel puppy to Harry of Harry's Army & Navy for a shotgun. Things have really changed.
