Ah, Steven Crane Village. I know it well. Wife from Cutler St. We knew Frankie through my uncle 'Ray', Angelo DeCarlo AKA 'Gyp'. When we went to see Jersey Boys on Broadway, I turned to my wife and said 'that ain't Gyp', this guy looks like Dean Martin' Gyp was actually about 5.6 and 250 with a gruff voice and he'd pour lye down your throat if you didn't pay the vig. However, we played golf together at Shackamaxon and he'd plow me with beer from his cart and I was only 13. Good times, old memories

DeleteFrankie and his backup vocalists made some great records. In 1964 the first 45 I ever bought was their recording of "Dawn," and I still have that disc.
ReplyDeleteWell I’ve got to give you one thing Joe, you sure squeezed a heck of a lot of life into your 70 years on the 3rd Rock.Between taking a cross country trip to SF during the height of the hippy experience, serving honorably in our Armed Forces, serving the Newark PD,working in NYC in design and ads,having your picture taken with legit stars, and then off to the SJVI and opened a restaurant and catch the occasional sider on a movie set. And now administering your own blog and still out doing some home re-modeling. I have to ask, as you’re reaching around in some inconvenient spot trying to tighten down the Johnny bolts on a toilet does the thought ever run through mind “Man if I’d of stuck out 30 years on the Newark Pd I already would’ve been pulling one of those fat muni pensions for at least the last 15 years, or are you satisfied how things went overall?……SST
