There are more than 50 different places here in Florida - on lakes and rivers, the intercoastal, the Gulf and the ocean - where this is an annual tradition. They usually involve a lot of drinking - that's probably the best part of the whole party.
My personal favorite is the parade on tiny Lake Weir, about 10 miles from my house. Youcan hang out on the back deck of Gator Joe's in Oklawaha and watch the silliness under cover, cocktail in hand. The Lake Weir parade always ends with Santa Claus on water skis.
