Get ready to say goodbye to a lot of familiar bird names, like Anna's Hummingbird, Gambel's Quail, Lewis's Woodpecker, Bewick's Wren, Bullock's Oriole, and more. This is straight out of the 'You cannot make this shit up' playbook.
That's because the American Ornithological Society has vowed to change the English names of all bird species currently named after people, along with any other bird names deemed 'offensive' or 'exclusionary'.

ReplyDeleteNot going to play along with snother renaming. First it was Pluto, then Rohippus, brontosaurus, and changing how sulphur is spelled. Sod off, the whole lot of them.
ReplyDeleteDo they realize that the Latin scientific name of many species contains a Latinized version of a person's name ( usually the discoverer, but not always ) . For example, Diplodocus carnegii .
