Another one bites the dust...

FoxNews.com - Legendary singer and songwriter Jimmy Buffett died on Friday at the age of 76 after struggling with an undisclosed health issue since 2022. The "Margaritaville" icon died peacefully Friday surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs, according to a statement posted to his website and social media accounts. "He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many," the statement read. Buffett's cause and place of death were not provided.
Jimmy began struggling with a health issue starting last year, when he was hospitalized and forced to cancel several shows, according to USA Today. In May and June 2023, he canceled additional concerts after disclosing that he returned to the hospital to address medical issues that required "immediate attention."
In addition to the 1977 hit "Margaritaville," Buffett released several pop culture staples in the 1970s and 1980s, including "Come Monday," "Cheeseburger in Paradise," "Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes," "A Pirate Looks at Forty" and "Pencil Thin Mustache." Buffett was born on Christmas Day 1946 in Pascagoula, Mississippi, and grew up in Mobile, Alabama.

On a personal note, I met him a couple of times back in the late 80's and early 90's and I gotta tell ya - he was everything you might think he was, and a lot of fun to be around. His songs became an almost 'soundtrack' for the ten years Babs and I lived in the Caribbean. I can't here a single note from any of his songs and not flash back to the great times we had there. RIP, dude - you gave us all a lot of joy in your music.

One of our readers is a retired private snoop turned author and he's written a witty little ditty about his life and times. The book includes the story of his struggle to get into the business without the required licensing qualifications. It includes nine chapters containing dozens of his more colorful cases in various parts of the country; some hilarious, some tragic, some dangerous, and some highly illegal. Well worth a read. You can find a copy of it for yourself here:

New York City police plan to monitor large gatherings and noise complaints over Labor Day weekend with surveillance drones, officials have announced, prompting outcry from privacy advocates.
Police said Thursday that the remote-controlled aircrafts would be deployed to keep tabs on large gatherings, including private events, as New Yorkers prepared to celebrate the weekend heading into Monday’s holiday. People in the city will also be observing the celebration of J’ouvert and the West Indian Day parade.
“The drones are going to be responding to non-priority calls and priority calls,” Kaz Daughtry, an assistant New York police department (NYPD) commissioner, said. “For example if we have any 311 calls on our non-emergency line, where if a caller states there is a large crowd, a large party in the back yard, we’re going to be utilizing our assets to go up, go check on the party to make sure if the call is founded or not.”

  1. If 5% of NY'ers called in noise/party complaints they would overwhelm the system. they wouldn't be able to charge you for calling as you say "Loud music and more than usual cars on the street".

  2. You couldn’t have picked a better song to memorialize Jimmy. Also happens to be my favorite.
