Longstanding downtown Minneapolis gay bar The Saloon will no longer sell Bud Light or other Anheuser-Busch beverages because of how the beer brand handled the backlash from a marketing campaign involving a transgender influencer.
With the Twin Cities Pride festival set for this weekend, the Hennepin Avenue bar announced Monday it cut ties with the St. Louis-based brewing giant and replaced its products with beer from local breweries. The Saloon's decision follows months of controversy after Bud Light partnered with Dylan Mulvaney.
Coupla points to make here. First off, that little protest on their part does the same exact thing - has the same effect - as the boycotts by the people who were offended by the original campaign idea, so WTF does this prove?
Promoting the brand at your bar and supporting the marketing push would have made much more sense.

Tropical Storm Bret formed in the Atlantic Ocean on Monday and is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane, presenting a threat to parts of the Caribbean by Thursday.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami said in an update that Bret is set to “move across the Lesser Antilles as a hurricane on Thursday and Friday, bringing a risk of flooding from heavy rainfall, hurricane-force winds, and dangerous storm surge and waves.”

ReplyDeleteI saw Jimmy Buffet in concert several times during the late 70's early 80's. His concerts weren't "showy", just 2+ hours of great music.
ReplyDeleteI remember back in the 70's I went to Key West to paint a simulated carrier landing deck on one of the runways at the NAS....we were staying at a motel called the American something or other....anyway, there was a Black Angus steak house and a bar with the bandstand behind the bottles and I swear the band's name was the Coral Reefers...decent band, as I recall....
