ESPNSWF - 40 year old Olatunji Adegboyegao Okuboye of Clearwater Florida was arrested on one charge of 'Grand Theft Motor Vehicle Fial To Return' . And that’s the simple part. The real story is a lot more interesting.
Last year, Olatunji rented a 2019 Nissan Sentra from Avis Rent-A-Car and was supposed to return the car on March 2, 2022. He didn’t. Being a true entrepreneur, he was using the car to make Door Dash deliveries. Modern problems require modern solutions. Well, on February 14th, 2023, the people at Avis finally realized the car was never returned and reported it stolen.
See, I told you it got interesting. It took Avis ALMOST A FULL YEAR before they reported the car stolen.
So, they finally caught up to him. On February 16th, Olatunji was at the Clearwater Florida Chick-fil-a on Gulf-To-Bay Blvd when Pinellas County Sheriff’s ran the California plates on the car and got the report that it was stolen. Although Olatunji swore he planned to bring the car back next month, he was arrested. No word on what happened to the food order. Someone in Clearwater probably still waiting on their nuggets.
Dude was booked on a felony charge, and bonded out with $5,000. It looks like Olatunji had access to a red SUV but was choosing to use the rental car, you know, wear and tear. Miles and such. Plus that Nissan gets better gas mileage. Gotta appreciate the hustle, if nothing else...
