The funniest part of the story might be that the box has been there covering the statue all that time, and it appears there was no 'marking' or BLM grafittoes on it. I'm thinking the local Italian-American Carabinieri might have been keeping an eye on it...
On Friday, a judge ordered the city to finally free the statue and remove the plywood box. Judge Mary Hannah Leavitt said “the City accepted the donation of the Columbus statue in 1876” and was not able to just ditch it.
I love it when, very rarely, saner and smartest minds prevail, don't you?
