It doesn't take a genius to figure out that if someone wants to do something nefarious, a huge tax probably isn't gonna stop them.
Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.) is drafting legislation to impose a hefty tax on assault-style weapons in the wake of recent mass shootings across the United States.
Beyer’s office told The Hill the proposal was a workaround to avoid GOP opposition to legislation outright banning the high-capacity weapons.
Here's the full article in The Hill:
A right can be infringed not only by restricting the object itself, but by making obtaining it or its essential peripherals onerous. For example, one might not try to restrict actual printed speech, i.e. free press, but by forcing the ink to under go such exhaustive safety inspection that the price becomes too high for common use, the right is seriously restricted.
ReplyDeleteA tax is about the simplest and best way to infringe on a right. This politician, guarded by armed security, is plain out infringing, and he knows it though he will lie and deny it, the right to keep and bear arms by making obtaining a gun far beyond the reach of working people.
