Recreational marijuana sales began at 12 dispensaries in New Jersey on Thursday, a long-awaited development for many cannabis consumers.
Of the 12 locations, five of them are in South Jersey, with some just a short drive from Philadelphia. Sales at a sixth South Jersey location, the Curaleaf dispensary in Edgewater Park, were delayed by a zoning issue, and may start today.
The New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission described the opening day as "robust" and reported long lines at some of the 12 dispensaries greenlighted to do business Thursday. The commission said in a statement it had investigated only a few minor complaints and heard of "no significant patient access issues or supply shortages."
