The Senate actually did something good today...

The US Senate has unanimously passed a bill to make Daylight Saving Time permanent across the nation. The Sunshine Protection Act still has to face a vote in the House, but if eventually passed would mean an end to changing the clocks twice a year -- and a potential end to depressing early afternoon darkness during winter.
The Sunshine Protection bill was reintroduced by Republican Sen. Marco Rubio in 2021. Rubio said Tuesday that permanent Daylight Saving Time will help prevent pedestrian accidents, reduce crime and decrease seasonal depression and childhood obesity.
The bipartisan bill is "commonsense," according to co-sponsor Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden."Springing forward and falling back year after year only creates unnecessary confusion while harming Americans' health and our economy," Wyden said last year. "Making Daylight Saving permanent would give folks an hour back of sunshine during the winter months when we need it most."
Daylight saving time this year began on Sunday, March 13, and is set to last until Sunday, Nov. 6. The bill delays the implementation of permanent DST until November 2023 to give time to airlines and railways to adjust their schedules.
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine has previously argued for the reverse, saying in a 2020 study that public health and safety would benefit from DST being eliminated altogether.

"Permanent, year-round standard time is the best choice to most closely match our circadian sleep-wake cycle," said the study's lead author Dr. M. Adeel Rishi. "Daylight saving time results in more darkness in the morning and more light in the evening, disrupting the body's natural rhythm."

  1. Like jacking up prices then having a sale even though you're still paying more, then having the shop owner tell you what a deal you're getting.

Typical gov't move to do the exact opposite of normal, hosing everyone in the process. Standard time has been perfect for 1000's of years...until the modern morons in Congress got a hold of it, like everything else they touch.

  2. They had a 50/50 chance of getting it correct and once again screwed it up

  4. Trust the government to screw things up .
Standard Time is "Standard" because it's what the entire world uses .

The real common sense solution is to have summer and winter schedules for schools, businesses and such . To some extent , we already do .

And with the economy tanking , the world on the brink of war - THIS is what the Senate focuses on ?????

  5. Of course, instead of going with the AMA and other institutions and using standard time year round, they do just the opposite....Rubio, you just lost my vote....this proves you are no more than a tool....idiot.....hope you get primaried....hey, at least the CEOs can hit the golf courses and still get in 18 before the sun goes down, which is the only benefit I ever saw to the time change....never mind the kids will be in total darkness at the bus stop...you want an extra hour in the afternoon, get up an hour earlier....just sayin'.....
